Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially appointed Qatari mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani as Pakistan’s brand ambassador for mountains and tourism. The announcement was made during a meeting held on Thursday in Islamabad, where both leaders discussed ways to boost adventure tourism in the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised Sheikha Asma for her remarkable achievement of summiting Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s most dangerous and challenging peaks. Sheikha Asma is the first woman from the Gulf and Qatar to conquer this peak, which is located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region. The Prime Minister called her accomplishment an inspiring symbol of courage and determination.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s unique position as home to five of the world’s 14 highest peaks, including K2 and Nanga Parbat. He emphasized the country’s potential to become a leading global destination for climbers and adventure seekers. He also spoke about the importance of promoting gender empowerment through sports and adventure, praising Sheikha Asma’s role as a role model for women and young girls.

Sheikha Asma expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan for their warm hospitality during her climbs. She specifically acknowledged the hard work and dedication of local porters and guides who supported her expedition. She also described Pakistan’s mountains as some of the most beautiful and challenging in the world.

Prime Minister Shehbaz assured that the government will continue to improve safety, facilities, and support for international mountaineers. This appointment aims to strengthen bilateral ties and promote Pakistan’s tourism on the world stage.
