An earthquake shook the Barkhan district of Balochistan on Wednesday, causing panic among local residents. The tremors were felt across the region, but no immediate reports of damage or casualties have come in.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the earthquake measured 4.7 on the Richter scale. It struck at a depth of 30 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface. The epicenter was located 26 kilometers north of Barkhan, a remote and mountainous part of Balochistan.
Residents in the affected areas reported feeling the ground shake for several seconds. The sudden earthquake caused many people to rush out of their homes in fear. Despite the strong tremors, no structural damage has been reported so far.
Local authorities have placed emergency teams on high alert to respond quickly if needed. They are also closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
Balochistan is known to be a seismically active region. Earthquakes of varying intensity occur here frequently due to tectonic movements. The government has urged residents to stay calm and follow safety protocols during such events.
Experts recommend that people secure heavy furniture and avoid standing near windows during an earthquake. It is also advised to stay outdoors if the tremors continue.
The PDMA and other disaster management agencies are ready to provide assistance if any emergencies arise. So far, the earthquake has not caused any injuries or significant damage.
Officials will continue to monitor seismic activity in the area and update the public as necessary.
