Punjab IG Orders Crackdown on Underage Driving After Fatal Shahdara Incident

A tragic incident in Shahdara has prompted swift action from Punjab’s top police official after a man was killed by a vehicle driven by an underage driver. Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, expressed grave concern over the growing number of traffic violations involving minors behind the wheel.

In response, IG Anwar has ordered a province-wide crackdown against underage and unlicensed drivers, with particular emphasis on strict enforcement in Lahore. He directed all police units to ensure that such individuals are not allowed on the roads under any circumstances.

The Safe City Authority has been instructed to utilize surveillance cameras to detect and monitor underage drivers. Additionally, the IG stressed that parents of underage drivers involved in accidents or fatalities due to negligence should be held legally accountable.

These measures aim to reduce road accidents linked to underage driving and introduce greater accountability to safeguard public lives on the roads.
