Police Foil Attempt to Throw Children Off Bridge in Lahore

A tragic incident was narrowly averted in Lahore’s Dharampura area when police officers stopped a man from throwing his three children off a bridge. The suspect, identified as Tasawwar Abbas from Jhang, was arrested on the spot and has been charged with attempted murder.

The police were present in the area as part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s security protocol. She was scheduled to pass through the Dharampura underpass shortly after the incident, which allowed security personnel to act quickly and prevent a tragedy.

Authorities stated that Abbas, who is reportedly unemployed and struggling with drug addiction, attempted the act after his wife left him. He allegedly used his financial situation as an excuse to harm the children. The three children—a daughter aged three and two sons aged six and ten—were rescued safely.

The children have been handed over to the Child Protection Bureau to ensure their safety and wellbeing. The incident has raised serious concerns about mental health and family crises in vulnerable communities.
