Pakistan Launches Fruit Tree Plantation Along Highways to Boost Green Growth and Private Investment

The federal government of Pakistan has launched a landmark initiative to plant fruit trees along the nation’s highways and motorways, aiming to expand green cover, attract private sector investment, and promote sustainable economic development in line with national climate goals.

Green Project Finalized in Islamabad

The project was finalized in a high-level meeting between Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik and Minister for Communications Aleem Khan. Under the program, private investors will be allowed to lease land adjacent to major roads for planting climate-appropriate fruit trees, using a three-year lease model.

Key Goals of the Initiative

According to an official statement, the project is designed to:

To ensure the program’s success, the Ministry of Climate Change will offer technical assistance to participating investors, including:

  • Help with accessing carbon credits, which can increase profitability and attract green investment

This support is expected to make the project more attractive to private businesses and environmentally conscious entrepreneurs.
