Pakistan Downs 25 Indian Drones Amid Escalating Tensions

Pakistan’s armed forces have successfully neutralized 25 Israeli-made Harop drones used by India in recent cross-border operations, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday. The drones, which were detected across multiple areas in Pakistan, were downed using a combination of electronic countermeasures and conventional weaponry.

The ISPR referred to the drone incursions as part of India’s “desperate and panicked response” following Pakistan’s retaliatory actions, which included the downing of five Indian fighter jets and several military posts during operations on May 6 and 7. Debris from the drones, which were primarily launched across the Line of Control (LoC), has been recovered at various locations in Pakistan.

Despite the neutralization efforts, one drone partially struck a military target near Lahore, causing minor damage. Four Pakistani soldiers were injured in the attack, and a civilian lost their life in Miano, Sindh, due to a separate drone strike.

Meanwhile, efforts for de-escalation are underway as Pakistan and India’s National Security Advisers (NSAs) have established contact. Pakistani NSA Lt General Asim Malik and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval have communicated following India’s missile strikes inside Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), with both sides seeking to avoid further escalation.
