Punjab Education Minister Calls for Clarity on Out-of-School Children Data
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has raised concerns about the lack of accurate data on out-of-school children, stressing the importance of knowing their actual whereabouts. In an exclusive interview with SAMAA, Hayat pointed out that while many claim to know how many children are not attending school, no one provides concrete information on where these children are.
The minister acknowledged the provincial government’s efforts to address this issue, emphasizing that numerous out-of-school children have already been enrolled in educational institutions. He also discussed the introduction of innovative measures to accommodate working children, such as the establishment of technology schools and the implementation of flexible school hours.

Hayat further revealed that the Punjab Education Foundation is aiming to open 1,000 new schools, focusing on providing immediate solutions rather than constructing large buildings. Efforts to improve educational infrastructure, including awarding contracts for various projects, have already resulted in an increase in student returns.
“Our priority is to ensure that education reaches every child, regardless of their circumstances. Accurate data and innovative approaches are essential for achieving this goal,” Hayat concluded.
