The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has decided to expand its panic button project to improve security for Chinese nationals living and working across the province. The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response and enhance protection at key locations.
Under the new plan, Punjab will install modern panic button systems at Chinese residential compounds and project sites. The technology will allow residents and workers to immediately alert authorities during emergencies. Officials believe this system will improve communication with law enforcement agencies and reduce response times.
The panic button project is designed to provide faster assistance during security incidents. Once activated, the system will send an instant alert to the relevant authorities, allowing security teams to respond more quickly and efficiently.
According to officials, panic buttons will be installed at both residences and worksites used by Chinese nationals. These locations include housing compounds and project sites connected with ongoing development activities in Punjab.
The Special Protection Unit (SPU) will also receive the new technology as part of the expansion. The SPU is responsible for providing security to Chinese nationals working on different projects across the province. Officials said equipping the unit with panic button technology will improve its operational readiness and coordination during emergencies.
The first phase of the project will begin in Lahore. More than 200 Chinese-related installations will receive QR code-enabled panic buttons. The QR-enabled system is expected to simplify emergency reporting while helping authorities identify the exact location of an incident more quickly.
Officials said the use of modern technology will improve the overall effectiveness of security operations. It will also help emergency services respond more accurately to incidents involving Chinese citizens and important project sites.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority said the expansion is part of a broader plan to modernize security systems throughout the province. Authorities are working to strengthen emergency communication networks and improve coordination between different law enforcement agencies.
The government believes that better emergency response systems will enhance public safety while protecting foreign nationals working on strategic projects. Faster communication can reduce delays and improve the ability of security teams to manage emergencies.
Officials added that work is already underway to further improve the panic button network. The goal is to ensure that emergency alerts reach the appropriate departments without delay, allowing faster decision-making during critical situations.
The project also reflects Punjab’s continued focus on using technology to improve public security. Modern digital systems are becoming an important part of law enforcement and emergency management across the province.
