Murree Police have advised tourists not to use the Old GT Road while major road repair and carpeting work continues. Visitors have been asked to use the Murree Expressway and other alternative routes for a safer and smoother journey.
The traffic advisory was issued to help reduce congestion and improve travel during the busy tourist season. Authorities said the ongoing construction work has affected traffic movement on the Old GT Road.
According to Murree Police, the Murree Expressway is currently the safest and most suitable route for entering the hill station. Officials believe this route offers better traffic management while repair work continues on other roads.
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Raza Tanveer, said traffic has increased on the Murree Expressway because vehicles are being diverted from the Old GT Road. He added that the police are taking several measures to manage the higher number of vehicles.
To improve traffic flow, Murree Police have deployed additional officers at important locations. More personnel are now working to guide motorists and reduce traffic delays.
Traffic management has also been strengthened at Bustan Mor, Masiari Link Road, and Jhika Gali Road. These routes provide access to central Murree and several popular tourist attractions.
Officials said better traffic control on these roads will help reduce congestion and improve the travel experience for visitors. The additional arrangements are intended to ensure safe movement during the peak tourism season.
The police have also advised tourists to check live traffic updates before starting their journey. Travelers are encouraged to use Google Maps to monitor road conditions and choose the best available route.
Authorities also recommended downloading the Safe Tourism Murree mobile application. The app provides real-time information about traffic conditions, weather updates, parking availability, and emergency services.
Officials said using the application can help tourists avoid delays and plan their visits more effectively. It also allows travelers to receive important alerts while they are in Murree.
The advisory comes as large numbers of tourists continue to visit the hill station during the summer season. Heavy traffic often creates long queues, especially on weekends and public holidays.
Murree Police urged drivers to follow traffic rules, cooperate with officers on duty, and remain patient while traveling. Authorities also requested motorists to follow official instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.
The police believe these measures will improve road safety and reduce inconvenience for both tourists and local residents. They also expect that using recommended routes will help minimize congestion until the road repair work is completed.
