With the arrival of colder temperatures following the first winter rain, chicken meat and egg prices have surged across Punjab. On Saturday, December 23, the price of chicken meat in Lahore rose by Rs7, reaching Rs475 per kilogram, up from Rs468 the previous day.
The wholesale price of live broiler chickens also saw an increase of Rs5, now standing at Rs314 per kilogram, with the retail price climbing to Rs328 per kilogram. Additionally, the Lahore district administration updated its official price list, raising the cost of a dozen eggs by Rs1 to Rs326.

In Multan, the wholesale price of live broiler chicken is now Rs294 per kilogram, with a retail rate of Rs308 per kilogram. Broiler meat in the city is being sold at Rs446 per kilogram, while a dozen eggs cost Rs324.
Traders and market analysts predict further price increases as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a continued drop in temperatures, intensifying the cold wave across Punjab. The recent weather changes coincided with a significant temperature drop in Lahore after its first winter rain, which ended a prolonged dry spell. The mercury fell to 9°C, with light rain reported in several areas, including Garhi Shahu, Mall Road, and Model Town.
