KP Faces Severe Toll with 275 Martyrs in 636 Terrorist Attacks This Year

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in Pakistan has faced a severe surge in violence this year, as outlined in a report by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The report reveals that 636 terrorist attacks occurred, resulting in the martyrdom of 275 individuals and leaving 460 others injured. Of the martyrs, 142 were police officers, and 133 were civilians. Among the injured were 214 police officers and 246 civilians.

The attacks included a variety of violent incidents such as six suicide bombings, 113 IED blasts, and 355 instances of gunfire, with banned extremist groups being responsible for the majority of these incidents. This ongoing wave of violence continues to threaten the region’s stability, especially with extremist groups intensifying their activities in the area.

To combat this surge in violence, the provincial government, along with the CTD, has been actively engaged in counter-terrorism operations. The CTD conducted 2,981 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) throughout the year, leading to the elimination of 246 terrorists. Additionally, 739 terrorists were arrested, including 29 high-profile targets. The CTD also seized significant quantities of material during these operations, including 849 kilograms of explosives, 162 hand grenades, seven suicide jackets, and various firearms.

In response to these security challenges, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to improving law and order in the region. He mentioned that significant progress has been made, citing the operation of 16 active CTD stations across the province. To further strengthen security efforts, the government has released one billion rupees to enhance forensics capabilities and plans to purchase 20 bomb-proof vehicles to support security forces during operations. These measures highlight the government’s determination to tackle the ongoing terrorist threat in the region.
