Warner Bros. has released the official trailer for Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, a documentary that explores the life of the iconic actor. Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film chronicles Reeve’s rise to fame as Superman and his subsequent fight to find a cure for spinal cord injuries following a horse riding accident that left him a quadriplegic. The documentary features personal archive footage and insights from Reeve’s family.

Matthew Reeve, Christopher’s son, expressed his appreciation for the documentary, noting its value in providing new perspectives through previously unseen footage and interviews. He shared with Variety, “It is a gift. We’re so lucky. We not only have his films but also a collection of home movies and interviews on YouTube. Discovering rare material, like a 1977 Australian interview I hadn’t seen before, enhanced my understanding of him.”

Owen Gleiberman, Variety‘s chief film critic, praised Super/Man following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. He described it as a “moving, wrenching, compellingly well-made documentary,” acknowledging that while Reeve’s story is widely known, the film offers a deeply absorbing portrayal.

Super/Man will be released in select theaters starting September 21, with a special encore presentation on September 25, Reeve’s birthday. Details on a broader release are yet to be announced.
