The Lahore High Court has ordered the release of PTI's Sanam Javed from jail

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the release of Sanam Javed, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker, from jail in a case registered against her in Gujranwala. The LHC’s two-member bench, led by Justice Asjad Javed Ghural, issued a detailed 14-page verdict stating that the nomination of political workers in multiple identical cases reflects malicious intentions on the part of the investigating officers.

The written verdict highlighted that there was no incriminating evidence linking Sanam Javed to FIR No. 823/23 dated May 10, 2023, which included charges under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, and the Anti Terrorism Act, 1997. The court concluded that the investigation against her was motivated by malafide and ulterior motives.

The ruling accepted the criminal revision and ordered her discharge from the case, with the Deputy Prosecutor General confirming that she was not implicated in any other cases requiring her detention. Consequently, the court directed her immediate release from jail. Justice Ghural criticized the Investigating Officer’s actions for repeatedly implicating Sanam Javed in cases with identical charges, following her initial arrest in Lahore. He described these actions as colored with malafide intent, aimed at undermining the judicial process.

While refraining from issuing adverse orders against the deputy commissioners of Lahore and Gujranwala, the judge warned against future attempts to obstruct judicial orders, expecting compliance with legal norms in the future. The court’s decision marks a significant stance against perceived misuse of legal processes and underscores the importance of fair and just investigative practices.
