PM Shehbaz Orders Measures to Expand Youth Employment

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to expand employment opportunities for young Pakistanis. The measures will be implemented under the National Youth Employment Policy.

PM Shehbaz issued the instructions during a review meeting in Islamabad on August 18. He called for coordinated action among government ministries and relevant institutions.

The prime minister said the government would review progress every month. He described dignified employment for skilled and talented youth as a priority.

Focus on Women and Underrepresented Regions

PM Shehbaz called for special attention to women and young people in Balochistan. Youth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also receive greater focus.

He stressed the need to provide young people with relevant skills. These skills can help them access emerging employment opportunities.

The government also wants greater coordination between ministries. Officials have been asked to develop a comprehensive strategy for implementing the policy.

The National Youth Employment Policy was formally launched earlier this month. It aims to increase employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.

Skills Development to Support Employment

The government has introduced registration reforms involving NAVTTC and SMEDA. These changes aim to better match skilled workers with market requirements.

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission is focusing on workforce development. Its programmes include international certifications and language training.

These skills are particularly important for young people seeking overseas employment. Training programmes are also being adjusted according to market demand.

The government believes better training can improve employment prospects. It can also help Pakistani workers compete in international markets.

Digital Youth Hub to Connect Job Seekers

The Digital Youth Hub is being used as a central information platform. It provides details about employment opportunities within Pakistan and abroad.

The platform is intended to make job information easier to access. Young people can use it to explore available employment opportunities.

Youth Development Cells are also being established in educational institutions. These cells will provide career counselling and guidance.

They will also share information about employment and skills development programmes. This could help students make more informed career decisions.

Awareness Campaign Planned

PM Shehbaz has also ordered an awareness campaign for young people. The campaign will highlight benefits available under the National Youth Employment Policy.

The government wants young Pakistanis to understand available opportunities. Relevant ministries and institutions will work together on implementation.

The policy also includes measures supporting women and entrepreneurship. Earlier announcements included a 35 percent women’s workforce quota and a 10 percent startup allocation.

Monthly Review of Youth Employment Policy

The prime minister has ordered regular monitoring of the policy. Progress will be reviewed every month to assess implementation.

PM Shehbaz said effective coordination would be necessary for successful results. Government departments will need to work together on practical employment measures.

The initiative aims to improve access to jobs and skills. It also seeks to prepare young people for changing labour market demands.

For Pakistan, youth employment remains an important economic priority. Better skills and employment opportunities could support broader economic participation.
