Electric EV taxis are set to revolutionize urban transportation in Karachi and other cities across Pakistan, marking a significant advancement in the country’s transport sector. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon recently announced the introduction of electric taxis and pink taxis as part of a new initiative by the Sindh Department of Transport. Under this initiative, Karachi will witness the deployment of 200 electric taxis, alongside 50 pink taxis dedicated exclusively to women passengers. Minister Memon highlighted that these initiatives aim to improve public transportation services while catering specifically to the needs of female commuters.
One of the key features of the pink taxis is the recruitment of female drivers, which not only enhances women’s safety but also promotes economic empowerment by providing employment opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated sector.
