'Tax imposed' on traffic challan payments in Punjab

Recently, a new tax has been introduced for online payment of traffic fines in Lahore and other cities across Punjab. According to reports, an additional Rs15 is deducted as tax when paying traffic challans through online platforms, as disclosed by Lahore news sources. For example, if a traffic violation fine amounts to Rs500, the online payment would reflect a total of Rs515 after including the tax.

As of now, the traffic department has not issued an official statement regarding this new tax imposition Traffic tickets are issued by traffic police officers to motorists, car drivers, and bus drivers for violating traffic regulations. When an offense occurs, a traffic violation ticket is issued by the traffic warden or responsible police officer.

Typically, these penalties entail a fixed payment amount, with the possibility of increased fines if not paid within a specified timeframe. For instance, fines can double if not settled promptly.

Currently, the fine for riding a motorcycle without a helmet and for driving a motor vehicle on the wrong side of the road stands at Rs2,000 each.
