PM Shehbaz Discusses Pakistan's Economic Revival With IMF Chief

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to revitalize Pakistan’s economy through structural reforms, rigorous fiscal discipline, and prudent policies during his meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Saudi Arabia, where Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to steering Islamabad’s economy back on course. He expressed appreciation to Ms. Georgieva for her assistance in securing a $3 billion Standby Arrangement from the IMF last year.

The Prime Minister’s discussion with Ms. Georgieva occurred ahead of an IMF Executive Board meeting scheduled for Monday. During the meeting, the IMF chief commended Shehbaz Sharif for the timely establishment of the Standby Arrangement last year.

Both parties also explored the possibility of another IMF program to solidify the progress achieved over the past year and sustain Pakistan’s positive economic growth trajectory. Ms. Georgieva shared the IMF’s perspective on the ongoing program.

Following the talks, the Prime Minister extended a warm invitation to the IMF chief to visit Pakistan at her convenience.
