[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The Meteorological Office has reported that moderate monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are projected to infiltrate the upper regions of Pakistan starting from the evening/night of the 22nd. Simultaneously, a westerly wave is anticipated to enter these areas on the 23rd of August, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

These atmospheric systems are anticipated to bring about rain, wind, and thunderstorms, including some instances of moderate to heavy rainfall. The affected areas are expected to encompass: Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, and Nowshera. This weather pattern is expected to persist from the 23rd to the 27th of August, interspersed with occasional breaks.

In addition, rain and wind-induced thunderstorms are predicted in Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, and Bhakkar from the 24th to the 26th of August, with intermittent interruptions. This weather trend is also projected for Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar on the 25th and 26th of August.

Anticipated moderate to heavy rainfall could potentially raise water levels in local watercourses and streams across various regions including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Galliyat, Murree, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad from the 23rd to the 25th of August. Moreover, hill torrents are expected in Dera Ghazi Khan and the adjacent areas of northeast Balochistan on the 25th and 26th of August.

The substantial rainfall could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Lahore from the 23rd to the 26th of August. Additionally, there’s a potential for landslides in the vulnerable regions of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this wet spell.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
