The Pakistani government has explained how eligible citizens can register for the new Rs100 per litre petrol relief scheme. The targeted programme has been introduced to provide financial support to people affected by the recent increase in fuel prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the scheme on Sunday. The relief is aimed at motorcyclists, rickshaw and Qingqi drivers, as well as owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc. The government has said that the registration process has been kept simple so eligible citizens can access the subsidy without unnecessary difficulties.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima said citizens only need to complete the registration process once. Applicants must use a mobile SIM registered in their own name and send their CNIC number to 9771. They will then need to provide details including their vehicle registration number, the province or city where the vehicle is registered and the vehicle’s registration date.
All information provided during registration must match the vehicle’s official registration record. If there is a problem or some information is missing, the applicant will receive a message asking them to correct the details. Once the registration has been successfully completed, there is no need to repeat the process.
After registration, beneficiaries can request the petrol subsidy whenever they need fuel. They simply have to send “TOK” to 9771 to request their fuel subsidy token. This means eligible citizens will not have to go through the complete registration process every time they need to purchase petrol.
The IT minister also warned citizens to remain careful with their personal information. People have been advised not to share their CNIC details or other sensitive information with anyone claiming to offer registration services. The government will not charge any fee for registration or for receiving the petrol relief.
Citizens have also been told that they should not provide additional information beyond what is required through the official process. Authorities will continue monitoring the system and will work to resolve technical issues and registration errors as they arise.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the scheme was introduced to provide targeted support to people facing financial pressure because of higher fuel prices. He said the government had established a system designed to ensure that eligible citizens could receive the relief in a transparent manner.
Petroleum Minister Malik also said the government was aware of the impact that rising petrol prices can have on ordinary households. He particularly highlighted people who depend on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for their daily income.
According to the government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant ministries and departments to arrange the necessary resources for the relief package. Officials will also remain available to deal with complaints and assist beneficiaries during the implementation of the scheme.
The government had previously introduced a targeted fuel subsidy programme that remained in place until June 30. The latest initiative is another attempt to protect vulnerable citizens from the immediate impact of higher fuel costs and provide direct relief to those who meet the eligibility criteria.
