A 12-year-old girl was killed and her father was injured after an underage boy allegedly driving a car hit their motorcycle on Naya Nazimabad Bridge in Karachi on Sunday evening.
According to police and rescue officials, the accident took place at around 5:30 pm. The car, bearing registration number ADA-714, was reportedly being driven by a boy believed to be around 12 or 13 years old. Another teenager was also travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
A traffic police officer said the car collided with the motorcycle carrying the girl and her father. The impact left both seriously injured. The girl was identified as Khaula, while her father was identified as 35-year-old Mohammed Yunus.
Rescue officials immediately shifted the injured father and daughter to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. Doctors examined both victims after they were brought to the hospital.
However, Khaula had suffered critical injuries in the collision and could not survive. Doctors pronounced the 12-year-old girl dead after her arrival at the hospital.
Her father, Mohammed Yunus, was admitted for treatment. His condition and the extent of his injuries were not immediately disclosed by authorities.
Following the accident, police took action against the underage driver. Officers arrested the boy and impounded the car involved in the collision.
Police also summoned the boy’s father to Shahrah-i-Noorjehan Police Station as part of the investigation. Authorities are expected to examine how the underage boy was able to drive the vehicle and the circumstances that led to the crash.
The accident has once again raised concerns about underage driving on Karachi’s roads. Children driving vehicles can pose serious risks to themselves and other road users because they are not legally permitted to operate vehicles and may lack the experience required to handle traffic situations safely.
The involvement of another teenager in the car is also part of the circumstances being examined by police. Investigators will determine the events leading up to the collision and whether any other factors contributed to the accident.
