The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has launched a one-month Skill Development Training programme for young engineers under Phase-II of its Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Programme.
The initiative involves 1,400 trainee engineers who graduated in 2025. The programme is designed as a structured house-job initiative to help young engineers gain professional experience and workplace skills.
The first batch of 700 trainees will receive training from September 1 to September 30, 2026. The remaining 700 trainees will attend the training programme from October 1 to October 31, 2026.
PEC is implementing the GET Placement Programme in collaboration with more than 60 industrial partners across Pakistan. The programme provides graduates with practical field exposure and professional development opportunities.
Under the programme, trainees complete five months of field training with industrial partners. They then undergo one month of specialised skills development training.
Each trainee receives a monthly stipend of Rs50,000 throughout the programme. The financial support is aimed at helping graduates gain practical experience while developing their professional capabilities.
The skills development training is being conducted five days a week at eight training centres. These centres are located in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.
The training curriculum focuses on several important workplace skills. These include communication skills, emotional intelligence and executive presence.
Trainees will also receive training in stress management, business writing and public speaking. The programme also covers conflict resolution and stakeholder management.
Other areas include critical thinking, time management, innovation and engineering ethics. These skills are intended to help graduates adjust to professional environments and meet modern industry requirements.
During the final week, trainees will also participate in a one-week Certificate Programme in Personality Development. The programme is being organised by the National Defence University (NDU).
PEC Chairman Engr Waseem Nazir said the GET Placement Programme aims to bridge the gap between academic education and professional practice.
He said young engineers need hands-on industrial exposure along with essential workplace skills. According to him, the house-job model can help graduates become better prepared for professional careers.
Nazir said the initiative could improve the employability of young engineers. It can also strengthen links between educational institutions and the industrial sector.
He added that PEC remains focused on creating meaningful professional opportunities for young engineers. The council also aims to develop a skilled engineering workforce capable of supporting Pakistan’s economic and technological development.
The Phase-II programme is expected to provide hundreds of graduates with practical experience and professional training. It could also help young engineers better understand industry expectations before entering long-term employment.
