Traffic police in Punjab have intensified a crackdown on people riding motorcycles and driving cars without valid driving licences. Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against motorists who violate licensing rules.
Under existing law, motorcycle and car drivers must have a valid driving licence. Traffic police teams are checking motorists across the province and taking action against those found driving without proper licences.
The Punjab government has also simplified the process for obtaining a driving licence. The move aims to make it easier for citizens to meet legal requirements and obtain valid licences.
For September 2026, the total fee for a one-year car driving licence has been fixed at Rs1,980. The amount includes the test fee, licence fee and courier charges.
Applicants must pay Rs150 for the driving test. After passing the test, they are required to pay Rs1,350 as the licence fee. Courier charges of Rs480 are also included in the total amount.
For a one-year motorcycle driving licence, the total fee has been set at Rs980. Applicants will pay Rs50 for the test and Rs450 after successfully passing it. Courier charges amount to Rs480.
Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazeer has directed officials across the province to strictly check the licences of commercial vehicle drivers.
He said commercial vehicles would not be allowed to operate on Punjab’s roads without valid driving licences. The directive covers drivers of both goods and passenger vehicles.
According to traffic department officials, more than 60,000 people have been assisted in obtaining commercial driving licences across Punjab during the current month. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that commercial drivers meet legal requirements.
The department also reported that more than 3,400 regular commercial driving licences have been issued. Authorities are continuing efforts to improve compliance among commercial vehicle operators.
DIG Traffic Nazeer warned that strict action would continue against drivers operating goods and passenger vehicles without valid licences. Officials have been directed to maintain strict checks on roads across the province.
The crackdown is part of wider efforts to improve road safety and ensure that drivers meet licensing requirements. Authorities have urged motorists to obtain valid licences before operating motorcycles, cars or commercial vehicles.
Citizens are also advised to complete the licensing process instead of risking legal action. The Punjab government’s simplified procedure is intended to make the process more accessible to motorists across the province.
