The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad district administration have launched an emergency drainage and dewatering operation after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas.
The operation is focused on Sector E-11, Ghouri Town and other low-lying localities. Authorities have deployed special teams and dewatering machinery to deal with accumulated rainwater.
Teams are working at underpasses, interchanges, major roads and other vulnerable locations. Drains and waterways are also being cleared to improve the flow of rainwater and prevent further water accumulation.
CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf visited E-11, Ghouri Town and other affected areas. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon also accompanied him during the inspection.
The officials reviewed drainage arrangements, traffic management and emergency response measures. Ashraf directed officials to use all available resources to address waterlogging without delay.
He also ordered authorities to keep sensitive areas under constant monitoring. Officials were instructed to ensure the immediate drainage of accumulated water from affected locations.
Joint teams from the CDA, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, Emergency and Disaster Management and the district administration remained active in the field.
The teams are working to clear blocked drainage channels and remove standing water from roads and other public areas. Machinery has been deployed at locations where water accumulation is creating difficulties for residents and motorists.
The administration has also issued a safety advisory for residents during heavy rainfall. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from low-lying and waterlogged areas.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution on roads affected by standing water. Residents have also been asked to cooperate with emergency teams working in affected areas.
The latest operation comes as heavy rainfall continues to put pressure on Islamabad’s drainage system. Low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable to water accumulation during intense rainfall.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and responding to complaints from affected areas. Emergency teams are being kept active to deal with drainage problems and other rain-related incidents.
Residents can report emergencies and drainage-related complaints to the relevant authorities. The administration has provided helplines 1334 and 16 for reporting urgent issues.
Officials have urged citizens to report blocked drains and serious waterlogging promptly. The authorities say timely reporting can help emergency teams reach affected locations more quickly.
The CDA and district administration are expected to continue the dewatering operation until accumulated water is cleared from vulnerable areas. Further measures may be taken if heavy rainfall causes additional waterlogging.
