Sindh Orders Public Transport Fare Cut After Diesel Drop

The Sindh government has ordered an immediate reduction in public transport fares following a major decrease in the price of high-speed diesel. The provincial Transport Department has directed transporters to pass the full benefit of the fuel price reduction on to passengers.

The order applies to buses, minibuses, coaches, vans and other public service vehicles operating across Sindh. Transporters have also been instructed to clearly display updated fare lists on their vehicles and at bus terminals.

Transport authorities have been directed to conduct daily inspections and road checks to ensure that operators follow the revised fares. Officials will monitor public transport vehicles and take action against those found charging passengers above the approved rates.

Transporters violating the new directive could face fines and other penalties. The department said route permits could also be suspended, while vehicle fitness certificates may be cancelled in cases of violations.

Relevant officials have also been ordered to submit daily implementation reports to the Sindh Transport Department. The government is seeking strict enforcement to ensure that passengers receive the benefit of lower fuel costs.

The directive follows the federal government’s decision to reduce the price of high-speed diesel by Rs32.63 per litre. The new price has been set at Rs363.06 per litre.

The diesel price reduction is expected to lower operating costs for public transport operators across the province. The Sindh government has now instructed transporters to reflect these savings in passenger fares.

The move is aimed at providing direct relief to commuters who rely on public transport for daily travel. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring fares to prevent operators from overcharging passengers.
