Hepatitis Tests Begins for Government Employees

The federal government has launched a hepatitis screening drive for government employees working in Islamabad from August 18.

Under the initiative, employees of all federal ministries and institutions will be screened for hepatitis.

Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal will formally launch the hepatitis C screening program at the Ministry of Health, The initiative aims to identify hepatitis cases among government employees and provide timely testing and treatment.

Employees who test positive for hepatitis C will receive free PCR tests for further diagnosis.The government will also provide free medicines to employees who test positive for the infection.

The screening program is part of the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis Program launched to expand testing and treatment services.

The federal government has allocated Rs. 67 billion for the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis Program.

Of this amount, Rs. 1 billion has been allocated for the initiative during the current fiscal year.

As part of the screening drive, the government has purchased 50,000 testing kits for employees. Hepatitis C samples collected during the campaign are currently being tested at the National Institutes of Health. The testing process will help authorities identify infected employees and determine those requiring further medical assessment.

Officials are expected to use the screening results to ensure affected employees receive appropriate treatment.

The initiative is also aimed at improving early detection and reducing the health impact of hepatitis among government workers.

The government has encouraged employees to participate in the screening process as part of the public health initiative.

The screening drive will cover employees working across federal ministries and institutions in Islamabad.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the program and provide further updates on its progress.
