Kot Addu Canal Tragedy Claims 12 Lives

A tragic accident in Kot Addu tehsil of Muzaffargarh has claimed the lives of at least 12 people after a loader rickshaw carrying wedding guests plunged into the Muzaffargarh Canal.

The heartbreaking incident occurred near Sananwan at around 9am on Tuesday, when the rickshaw reportedly lost control and fell into the canal. More than two dozen members of the same family were travelling in the vehicle at the time.

The incident triggered an immediate rescue operation as emergency teams rushed to the scene to search for passengers trapped in the canal.

According to Rescue officials, 11 people were rescued alive from the water and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, the operation soon turned into a recovery effort as rescuers began retrieving bodies from the canal.

Death Toll Reaches 12

Rescue teams have so far recovered the bodies of 12 people from the canal, including three children.

The latest recoveries brought the confirmed death toll from the accident to 12, deepening the tragedy for the family travelling together for a wedding-related event.

Officials continued working at the site as rescuers searched the canal for people who may still be missing.

The accident has caused grief among residents of the area, with the incident highlighting the risks faced by passengers travelling in overloaded or vulnerable vehicles, particularly when roads and waterways are located close to populated areas.

Three Children Still Missing

A search operation remains underway for three children who are still missing following the accident.

According to Rescue officials, the missing children are between three and 10 years old. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate them by searching the canal and nearby areas.

The rescuers are using available equipment and manpower to cover different sections of the waterway.

The search has remained challenging because of the canal’s conditions and the circumstances surrounding the accident. Rescue officials are working to locate all missing passengers and provide closure to the affected families.

Rickshaw Carrying Wedding Guests

The loader rickshaw was reportedly carrying members of the same family who were travelling in connection with a wedding.

More than two dozen people were said to be inside the vehicle when it lost control near Sananwan and plunged into the Muzaffargarh Canal.

The exact reason why the rickshaw lost control has not yet been established.

Authorities are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident as rescue and related official activities continue.
