The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Karachi from the evening of August 1 through August 2, bringing relief from the city’s hot and humid weather conditions.
According to the PMD, the rainfall is linked to a weather system originating from the Bay of Bengal, although officials clarified that heavy rain is not expected in Karachi during this spell.
Bay of Bengal Weather System Weakening
The PMD said a deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal is currently located over Madhya Pradesh, India. The weather system is expected to weaken over the next 12 hours, gradually turning into a depression before becoming a low-pressure area within the following 24 to 36 hours.
Despite weakening, the system continues to influence regional weather patterns across South Asia.
Moist Winds Affecting Pakistan
According to the weather department, moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are continuing to enter Pakistan’s upper and central regions. At the same time, a western weather system remains active over the country’s northern areas.
The combination of these weather systems is expected to trigger intermittent rainfall across several parts of Sindh over the coming days.
Rain Expected in Several Sindh Districts
Besides Karachi, the PMD has forecast intermittent rain in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Sanghar, and Hyderabad from the evening or night of July 31 until August 2.
Officials said these areas are likely to receive scattered showers as moisture continues to move inland from the Arabian Sea.
Karachi to Receive Light to Moderate Rain
For Karachi, the PMD expects light to moderate rainfall beginning on the evening of August 1 and continuing into August 2.
The department emphasized that the current weather system is not expected to produce heavy rainfall in the city, reducing the likelihood of widespread urban flooding or major disruptions.
However, residents are still advised to exercise caution while driving during rain, as wet roads can increase the risk of traffic congestion and accidents.
Monsoon Season Continues
Pakistan has been experiencing multiple monsoon weather systems in recent weeks, bringing rainfall to different parts of the country. Weather experts continue to monitor changing conditions as moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal influences regional weather patterns.
The PMD has advised the public to stay updated with official weather forecasts, particularly those planning travel or outdoor activities over the weekend.
