PM Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to strengthen the QR code-based complaint registration system in Pakistani embassies worldwide to improve services for overseas Pakistanis and ensure their concerns are addressed more efficiently.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Information Technology, and other relevant departments, where the prime minister reviewed ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing facilities for Pakistanis living abroad.
Overseas Pakistanis Called a National Asset
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described overseas Pakistanis as one of the country’s most valuable assets and emphasized that providing them with quality public services remains a key priority for the government.
He praised the launch of the QR code-based complaint system and instructed authorities to make it more effective by ensuring the codes are clearly displayed at all Pakistani embassies and high commissions across the world.
The prime minister also directed officials to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign so that overseas Pakistanis are fully informed about the new complaint mechanism and can easily access it whenever needed.
Digital Services Expanded
Officials informed the prime minister that QR codes are also being introduced for several other consular services, including powers of attorney, property-related matters, and document verification.
The digital initiative is expected to simplify procedures and reduce delays for Pakistanis seeking assistance from diplomatic missions abroad.
The meeting was also informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an evening shift at its headquarters in Islamabad to improve service delivery and accommodate a larger number of applicants.
Apostille System Simplifies Verification
Officials briefed the prime minister on the implementation of the apostille system, which has significantly simplified document authentication.
Under the new system, official documents can now be authenticated through a single-step verification process, making the procedure faster and more convenient for overseas Pakistanis and other applicants.
The reform is expected to reduce processing times while improving the efficiency and transparency of document verification.
Mobile App Under Development
The meeting was further informed that the National Information Technology Board (NITB), in collaboration with the Foreign Office, is developing a dedicated mobile application to further digitize consular services.
The upcoming app will allow users to digitally verify important official documents, including birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, family registration certificates, and other government-issued records.
Officials said the application aims to make verification services more accessible while reducing paperwork and the need for in-person visits.
The government believes these digital initiatives will modernize Pakistan’s consular services, improve transparency, and provide faster assistance to millions of overseas Pakistanis worldwide.
