UAE residents could enjoy a three-day weekend if the Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2026 public holiday is moved to Monday, pending the official moon sighting announcement.
Residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) may soon enjoy a three-day weekend as authorities are expected to announce the public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2026. If approved, the move would give millions of people an extended break to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and spend more time with their families.
Based on astronomical calculations, Eid Milad-un-Nabi is expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. However, under the UAE’s public holiday policy, the government has the option to shift the holiday to Monday, August 24, creating a long weekend that includes Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
If the holiday is moved, employees in both the public and private sectors would benefit from three consecutive days off, making it one of the most anticipated long weekends of the summer.
The final holiday date has not yet been officially confirmed. As with other Islamic holidays, UAE authorities will announce the official date after the moon sighting, in line with the Islamic lunar calendar.
According to UAE labour laws, employees are entitled to a paid public holiday. Workers who are required to perform their duties during the official holiday must receive either additional compensation or an alternative day off, as outlined in the country’s labour regulations.
With the expected announcement approaching, many residents are already making tentative plans for travel, family gatherings, and leisure activities, hoping the holiday will be shifted to create a long weekend. An official confirmation from UAE authorities is expected closer to the date following the moon sighting process.
