Three men accused of murdering Dr Akash during a robbery in Karachi were killed in what police described as an encounter in the city’s Gulshan-e-Memar area on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Umar Brohi Goth, where the suspects were taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to police, the accused were being escorted to identify locations and help recover further evidence linked to the case when their alleged armed accomplices opened fire on the police team. Officers returned fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire during which the three suspects were killed.
Police said one officer was also injured during the operation and was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His condition has not been officially disclosed.
The deceased suspects had earlier been arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Akash, who was killed during a robbery in Karachi’s Frere area after allegedly resisting an attempt by robbers to snatch cash from him. The incident had sparked widespread concern and prompted police to launch a major investigation.
Authorities identified the deceased suspects as Suresh, Ram Chand, and Anil, adding that they were associated with the Odh community. Police said the investigation is continuing to identify and arrest other alleged members of the criminal group.
Officials maintained that the deaths occurred during an exchange of fire initiated by the suspects’ alleged accomplices. The circumstances surrounding the encounter have not been independently verified.
