The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken another important step toward building a new cricket stadium in Islamabad by moving closer to awarding the construction contract. The next phase of the process involves opening the financial bids, which is expected to take place within the coming days.
According to officials, the CDA has received updated project designs along with supplementary financial proposals from the two shortlisted joint ventures competing for the contract. After completing the technical evaluation of these revised submissions, the authority will upload the supplementary bids to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) E-PAD portal. Once this process is finalized, the financial bids are likely to be opened about a week later, bringing the project closer to the contract award stage.
The proposed cricket stadium will be developed near Sector D-12, at the foothills of the scenic Margalla Hills in Islamabad. The venue is designed to accommodate approximately 32,000 spectators and will also feature parking facilities for nearly 10,000 vehicles. The parking area is planned to be located around one kilometer away from the stadium to help manage traffic efficiently during major sporting events.
The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. Two joint ventures remain in contention for the estimated Rs. 11.4 billion contract. One partnership consists of Habib Construction and ZKB-EA, while the other includes Lemar Builders and BK Consultants Pvt Ltd.
The CDA is working in collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to develop the venue using the Dubai International Cricket Stadium as a design reference. The planned cricket stadium will occupy nearly 50 acres within the proposed 175-acre Olympic Village project in Islamabad.
Officials stated that progress on the project remains on schedule. Once the bidding process is completed and the contract is officially awarded, construction work is expected to begin, marking a significant milestone in Islamabad’s efforts to develop a modern international-standard cricket stadium.
