KP Sets Deadline to Upgrade 32 Govt Hospitals

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has directed officials to complete the restoration and upgradation of all 32 District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals across the province before the end of the current financial year. He stressed that the project must move forward without any further delays and instructed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion.

While chairing a high-level review meeting in Peshawar, the chief minister emphasized the importance of improving public healthcare facilities. He asked officials to speed up the pace of work, remove administrative hurdles, and resolve all issues that could affect the project’s progress. According to Afridi, hospitals where development work has been delayed should receive immediate attention so that patients can benefit from better healthcare services as soon as possible.

The chief minister also announced that another progress review meeting will be held after three months. By then, departments are expected to present clear and measurable improvements in the implementation of the hospital restoration plan.

During the meeting, officials informed the chief minister that four PC-1 development schemes, valued at Rs. 33.085 billion, have already been approved for the rehabilitation and modernization of the 32 DHQ hospitals. They also shared that the procurement process for modern medical equipment worth Rs. 2.55 billion has been completed, and the equipment has already been delivered to the relevant hospitals. In addition, infrastructure designs have been finalized, while civil construction work is expected to begin shortly.

Afridi also instructed authorities to accelerate work on the proposed Health City project, calling it one of the provincial government’s highest healthcare priorities. He said the initiative would help meet the province’s growing medical needs by providing modern and sustainable healthcare facilities.

The chief minister further directed departments to ensure the timely completion of other important health projects, including the Khyber Institute of Child Health. He assured officials that the provincial government would provide every possible resource and support needed to finish these projects on schedule.

Afridi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector by upgrading existing hospitals and investing in new medical infrastructure. He said these initiatives are aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services for people across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ensuring better treatment facilities for future generations.
