Rehan Tariq Sent on Six-Day NCCIA Remand by Court

A local court in Lahore has granted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) a six-day physical remand of podcaster Rehan Tariq after his arrest at Lahore Airport in connection with a case involving allegations under blasphemy and cybercrime laws.

Rehan Tariq was produced before the court shortly after being taken into custody by NCCIA officials. According to investigators, the case stems from an interview in which sensitive sectarian topics were allegedly discussed, prompting legal action under the relevant laws.

During the hearing, the NCCIA requested physical remand, arguing that further custody was necessary to complete its investigation. Officials told the court they needed additional time to examine digital devices, review electronic evidence, and collect other material linked to the case.

After hearing the agency’s arguments, the court approved the request and placed Rehan Tariq on a six-day physical remand. He will remain in the custody of the NCCIA while investigators continue gathering evidence and questioning him as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Authorities said the case has been registered under relevant provisions of Pakistan’s blasphemy-related laws as well as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Officials maintained that the investigation is still in its early stages and that further legal proceedings will depend on the findings of the inquiry.

The arrest of Rehan Tariq has attracted significant public attention because of the sensitive nature of the allegations and the legal provisions involved. The case has also generated widespread discussion on social media, with supporters and critics closely following the developments.

Investigators are expected to analyze digital content, interview relevant individuals, and review additional evidence during the remand period before presenting their findings to the court.

The court’s decision to grant physical remand does not determine guilt or innocence. It allows investigators additional time to complete their inquiry in accordance with legal procedures. Rehan Tariq is expected to be produced before the court again after the six-day remand period, when the agency will provide an update on the progress of its investigation and seek further directions from the court.
