Antonio Guterres on Thursday praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional and global peace during a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on regional and global security issues, with particular focus on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace in West Asia.
They also discussed Pakistan’s longstanding participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions and its contributions to maintaining international peace and security.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Peace
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan has consistently played a responsible role in promoting peace, stability, and the protection of human lives despite facing regional challenges.
He added that Syed Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif have demonstrated responsible leadership in advancing regional peace initiatives.
The interior minister also stressed that UN peacekeeping missions require realistic mandates and adequate resources to effectively fulfill their responsibilities.
UN Chief Appreciates Pakistan’s Contributions
Antonio Guterres commended Pakistan’s continued contribution to global peace and security, describing the country’s longstanding participation in UN peacekeeping operations as valuable.
He also acknowledged Pakistan’s recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting regional peace and thanked Islamabad for its continued support of international peace and security.
