PM Shehbaz has directed authorities to prepare a national strategy to stop the manufacture and use of unsafe syringes across Pakistan. The move is aimed at reducing the spread of AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other infectious diseases.
The directive was issued during a meeting chaired by the prime minister to review ongoing efforts against infectious diseases. Senior officials discussed the current situation and proposed measures to improve public health and disease prevention.
PM Shehbaz said unsafe medical practices remain a major concern. He noted that poor-quality syringes can increase the risk of transmitting infectious diseases. He instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to prevent the manufacture and use of such syringes throughout the country.
The prime minister also ordered strict legal action against individuals involved in the production or use of unsafe syringes. He said hospitals found responsible for criminal negligence in disease prevention should also face legal action under the law.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz directed the formation of a special committee of health experts. The committee will prepare recommendations to improve the country’s response to infectious diseases. It will also consult provincial governments to ensure that the proposed measures can be implemented nationwide.
The prime minister instructed the Ministry of Law to work with relevant institutions. The ministry will review the current legal and regulatory framework and recommend any necessary amendments to strengthen disease control efforts.
He also directed the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to consult the medical device industry. The authority has been asked to prepare policy recommendations related to the regulation of medical devices and equipment.
The prime minister stressed that a comprehensive national strategy is necessary to control AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other infectious diseases. He said strong implementation of the strategy would be essential for achieving better public health outcomes.
He also highlighted the importance of producing quality medical equipment within Pakistan. In addition, he called for world-class training of healthcare professionals to improve the country’s healthcare system.
The prime minister emphasized the need for continued cooperation with international partners. He said global support would help Pakistan strengthen its efforts to prevent infectious diseases and improve healthcare standards.
