Pakistan has categorically rejected what it described as baseless Indian assertions about the status of Jammu and Kashmir. The Foreign Ministry said India’s claims contradict internationally recognized facts.
Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan responded to media questions about a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The statement concerned a map showing the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region.
Pakistan said India’s unilateral actions cannot change the internationally recognized status of Jammu and Kashmir. It also rejected India’s continued control over the territory as a basis for changing its disputed status.
According to Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains one of the oldest unresolved disputes on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. Islamabad said the dispute continues to have international recognition.
The Foreign Ministry referred to relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions on the issue. It said the final status of Jammu and Kashmir must be determined according to these resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan said those wishes should be expressed through a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under United Nations auspices. Islamabad maintained that this remains the basis for resolving the long-standing dispute.
The Foreign Ministry also addressed the issue of maps showing Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan said official United Nations maps depict the region as disputed territory.
According to Islamabad, these United Nations maps represent the current legal status of the disputed region. Pakistan rejected India’s official maps and unilateral claims of sovereignty, saying they cannot change the territory’s disputed status.
The statement comes amid continued tensions between Pakistan and India over Jammu and Kashmir. Both countries maintain competing positions over the territory, which has remained a major source of conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Pakistan also called on the international community to take steps regarding the situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The Foreign Ministry urged India to stop what it described as human rights violations in the region.
Islamabad further called on India to fulfill what Pakistan described as its commitment to the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people. It linked this demand to the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Pakistan said the Kashmiri people should be allowed to determine their political future in accordance with internationally recognized principles. The government reiterated its position that unilateral measures cannot settle the dispute.
The latest statement reflects Pakistan’s continued diplomatic position on Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad has repeatedly called for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and an internationally supervised process to determine the territory’s final status.
The dispute remains a sensitive issue in South Asia. Pakistan and India continue to differ sharply over the region’s political and legal status, while the matter remains connected to broader regional tensions.
