The Punjab government has approved the transfer of 6,553 employees from the Population Welfare Department to the surplus pool of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD). The decision is part of a major administrative restructuring planned by the provincial government.
Officials said the move is aimed at improving departmental management and ensuring better use of human resources across Punjab.
Under the new framework, employees from the Population Welfare Department in all 36 districts will be adjusted against newly created positions. Formal orders have already been issued, and the reassignment process has started.
The government has also issued a notification placing all affected employees in the S&GAD surplus pool until they receive their new postings.
According to officials, the restructuring is part of the department’s approved reorganization plan. The plan seeks to streamline operations and improve administrative efficiency throughout the province.
Authorities said the transfer process will be carried out in phases. Employees will gradually be assigned to newly created posts under the revised administrative setup.
The government has assured staff that their salaries will continue during the transition period. Service records and other employment-related matters will also remain protected under the new framework.
Officials emphasized that the restructuring is not intended to affect employees’ existing service benefits. Instead, the focus is on reorganizing the workforce more effectively.
The Punjab government believes the new system will help improve coordination and reduce administrative complications within the department. By placing employees in suitable positions, the government aims to strengthen overall performance and service delivery.
The reassignment involves thousands of workers and is considered one of the larger administrative adjustments undertaken by the provincial government in recent years.
Officials said all departments involved have been instructed to ensure a smooth transition. They added that public services should continue without disruption during the restructuring process.
The government expects the reorganization to create a more efficient administrative structure while making better use of available staff across Punjab.
