The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has placed various departments at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on high alert following forecasts of dust-laden winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall in the city. The precautionary measures come after the Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of potentially severe weather conditions in the coming days.
According to PAA officials, the expected weather system could affect airport operations, prompting authorities to activate emergency preparedness protocols. Relevant departments have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure that all safety measures are implemented to minimize operational risks.
As part of the preventive steps, airport management has directed officials to relocate fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft parked on the apron and tarmac to safer locations. Loose equipment and materials have also been ordered to be properly secured to prevent damage from strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
The authority has additionally instructed technical teams to inspect electrical installations, power systems, and cables across the airport premises. Follow-me vehicles, which assist aircraft movement on the ground, have been ordered to remain fully operational and ready for deployment if needed.
Airport officials have also been tasked with ensuring the proper functioning of airfield lighting systems and inspection pits. These measures are aimed at maintaining safe aircraft operations and reducing the risk of disruptions during periods of poor visibility or severe weather.
All concerned departments have been directed to closely monitor weather updates and take necessary precautionary actions. The PAA emphasized that passenger safety and uninterrupted flight operations remain top priorities as Karachi prepares for the forecast rain and dust storms.
