Pakistan’s Federal Budget 2026-27 May Be on June 12

The federal government is likely to present the budget for fiscal year 2026-27 on June 12 instead of the previously expected June 10 date, according to sources familiar with ongoing discussions. Officials are still finalizing key aspects of the budget, and consultations regarding the schedule remain underway.

Sources said a final decision on the revised budget presentation date is expected within the next one or two days. While no official announcement has yet been made, preparations are reportedly being adjusted to accommodate the evolving timeline and outstanding policy discussions.

Several important budgetary matters are still under review, leaving limited time for authorities to complete the process before the originally anticipated date. Officials indicated that the upcoming month of Muharram is also being considered in planning and scheduling decisions related to the budget session.

Meanwhile, negotiations between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) have reportedly been concluded. Sources said both parties have reached an understanding on development spending priorities for the next fiscal year.

The government has also finalized discussions with coalition partners on major development allocations. These consultations were considered crucial for securing political support and ensuring consensus on key spending plans before the budget is presented to Parliament.

According to sources, the upcoming budget is expected to prioritize development spending in smaller provinces. Under the proposed allocation framework, Balochistan is likely to receive the largest share of development funds, followed by Sindh. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to rank third, while Punjab may receive the smallest share under the proposed distribution.

The expected increase in allocations for smaller provinces reflects the government’s focus on regional development and infrastructure expansion. More details regarding taxation measures, spending priorities, and economic targets are expected once the federal budget is formally unveiled later this month.
