Summer camp activities officially started on Monday in both public and private schools across Punjab after the provincial government granted permission for limited academic programs during the summer holidays. The initiative aims to provide students with learning opportunities while schools remain closed for regular classes.
Despite the launch of the summer camp programs, several parents and students have raised concerns regarding the implementation of government guidelines. Complaints have surfaced alleging that some private educational institutions are treating attendance as mandatory, even though official instructions clearly state that participation in summer camps should be voluntary and based on parental approval.
According to concerned parents, certain schools are pressuring students to attend the sessions, creating confusion among families. Many have argued that the purpose of the summer camp initiative is to offer optional learning opportunities rather than compulsory academic activities during vacation.
Additional concerns have emerged regarding reports that some schools are conducting examinations and extending classes beyond the approved schedule. Under the guidelines issued by the School Education Department (SED), summer camp activities are only permitted between 7:00 am and 10:00 am. However, parents claim that some institutions are not fully complying with these timings.
The reported violations have sparked criticism from parents who believe such practices increase academic pressure on students during their summer break. Many have urged schools to strictly follow the regulations introduced by the provincial government.
The official summer camp policy also includes several measures aimed at ensuring student safety and comfort. Schools have been directed to conduct activities indoors and provide essential facilities such as clean drinking water, proper ventilation, and first aid services. Additionally, students attending the camps are not required to wear school uniforms.
Education stakeholders have called on the School Education Department to closely monitor schools and take appropriate action against institutions that fail to comply with the notified summer camp rules. They stress that strict enforcement is necessary to protect students and ensure the program operates according to government directives.
