ISLAMABAD – A major development has emerged in the high-profile Sana Yousaf murder case as a District and Sessions Court in Islamabad sentenced the main accused, Umar Hayat, to death and also imposed a fine of Rs2 million.
The verdict was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka after the court completed hearings and reviewed evidence presented during the trial. The case had attracted widespread public attention and remained under close observation throughout the proceedings.
During the hearings, prosecutors presented important digital evidence before the court, including screenshots of alleged phone calls and chat records connected to the accused. According to the prosecution, forensic analysis linked a contact number saved as “Kaka” in Sana Yousaf’s mobile phone to Umar Hayat.
The court reportedly questioned the accused regarding the evidence during the proceedings. However, Umar Hayat stated that he could not respond properly without consulting his legal counsel.
Earlier during the trial, the accused denied all allegations related to the Sana Yousaf murder case. He told the court that he had neither confessed to the crime nor made any statement admitting involvement in the murder. The accused also denied having any relationship or contact with Sana Yousaf.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel objected to certain proceedings and informed the court that the accused had already expressed no confidence in both the state lawyer and the trial court. The lawyer further stated that two related petitions were pending before the Islamabad High Court and argued that announcing punishment before those matters were decided would be unfair.
Despite the objections, the court proceeded with the case and delivered its final verdict after examining available evidence and hearing arguments from both sides.
The Sana Yousaf murder case has remained one of the most widely discussed criminal cases on social media and in national news, with many closely following each stage of the investigation and court proceedings.
