Babar Azam Achieves Historic Milestone during Second Test match

Babar Azam added another major achievement to his international career during the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The Pakistan batter delivered an impressive knock of 68 runs from 84 balls, striking 10 boundaries and playing a crucial role for his side.

With this innings, Babar Azam became the first batter in world cricket to score more than 9,000 international runs in the 2020s decade. The milestone further strengthened his reputation as one of the most consistent performers across all formats of the game.

Babar Azam reached the landmark in his 212th international appearance of the decade. Since the start of the 2020s, he has maintained outstanding consistency, scoring 17 centuries and 67 half-centuries at an average of 42.53. His performances in Tests, ODIs, and T20 internationals have kept him among the leading batters in global cricket.

England star Joe Root occupies second place on the list of most international runs in the 2020s with 8,305 runs in 120 matches. Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan stands third with 7,779 runs from 199 matches.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka also feature among the top scorers of the decade, while Indian batting star Virat Kohli and Bangladesh’s Litton Das remain close behind.

During the same match, Babar Azam also equaled another important World Test Championship record. The right-handed batter registered his 31st Test half-century, matching Australian batter Steve Smith and England’s Zak Crawley among the joint third-highest fifty scorers in WTC history.

Babar Azam also completed his 20th WTC fifty in just 39 Test matches, placing him among the most successful batters in the championship’s history.
