Shaheen Afridi Becomes First Pakistani with 100 WTC Wickets

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi reached a historic milestone during the opening Test match against Bangladesh by becoming the first Pakistani cricketer to take 100 wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The left-arm pacer achieved the landmark after dismissing Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the hosts’ first innings. Shaheen continued his impressive performance by finishing the innings with three wickets, adding another memorable achievement to his growing international career.

The milestone highlights Shaheen Afridi’s consistency and impact in Test cricket since the launch of the World Test Championship. Remarkably, he completed 100 WTC wickets in only 28 matches, underlining his importance as a leading member of Pakistan’s bowling attack across different conditions and opponents.

Among Pakistani bowlers, spinner Nauman Ali currently stands second on the list of most WTC wickets for Pakistan. He has taken 89 wickets in 20 matches and remains the closest to Shaheen’s record. However, Shaheen’s achievement makes him the first player from the country to enter the prestigious 100-wicket club in the championship’s history.

On the global stage, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon currently holds the overall record for the highest number of wickets in the World Test Championship. Lyon has claimed 224 wickets in 55 matches and remains at the top of the all-time list.

Australian captain Pat Cummins follows closely behind with 222 wickets from 54 matches, while fellow fast bowler Mitchell Starc occupies third position with 221 wickets in 52 games.

Shaheen Afridi’s latest achievement further strengthens his reputation as one of Pakistan’s premier fast bowlers in modern cricket. His ability to deliver consistent performances in the longest format continues to play a key role in Pakistan’s Test success, while his record-breaking feat in the World Test Championship reflects both his skill and growing legacy in international cricket.
