The UAE is set to introduce a comprehensive Arabic Language Law as part of its 2026–2027 policy roadmap. The initiative aims to strengthen the role of Arabic across all sectors in the country.
The proposal was presented by the Ministry of Culture and Youth UAE during a session of the Federal National Council. Officials said Arabic language protection is a national priority.
They linked the plan to cultural identity and national security. The new law will be supported by detailed executive regulations.
These rules will create a strong legal framework. It will help promote and protect Arabic in education, media, and public life across the UAE.
Officials said the initiative is part of a wider cultural development strategy. It is designed to strengthen language use in everyday society.
The roadmap also includes a national reading programme. This aims to improve literacy rates across the country.
The UAE government also plans cultural policies focused on children and families. These programmes will encourage early engagement with the Arabic language.
Additional projects include expanding cultural centres nationwide. New campaigns will also document Arabic language and heritage.
Authorities said they are building a strong governance system for Arabic at the federal level. This includes national indicators to measure Arabic usage.
A National Identity Strategy is also being implemented in the UAE. A National Identity Committee will oversee its progress.
On the international stage, the UAE has promoted Arabic culture through UNESCO recognition. Arabic calligraphy has already been registered as cultural heritage.
The country has also supported global cultural initiatives such as the Al-Burdah Award. These efforts highlight Arabic creativity worldwide.
The roadmap builds on reforms introduced over the past decade. These include the Arabic Language Charter in 2012.
It also includes the National Reading Law introduced in 2016. Updated media regulations in 2023 further supported Arabic content development.
Officials said the new Arabic Language Law will reinforce the status of Arabic in the UAE. At the same time, the country will maintain cultural openness and development.
