The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Monday gave formal approval to a proposal concerning the export of donkey meat and hides from the Gwadar Donkey Slaughterhouse. The decision was announced following a meeting of the committee, where multiple economic matters were reviewed.
According to an official statement released after the session, the approval was granted based on a summary presented by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. The proposal focused on utilizing and managing the existing stock of donkey meat and related by-products in a regulated manner.
Under the approved plan, authorities will be allowed to dispose of and export the current inventory in accordance with established rules, export procedures, and health protocols. This step is aimed at ensuring that the process remains compliant with national regulations while opening avenues for controlled international trade.
The move is largely administrative in nature, designed to streamline the handling of surplus stock and facilitate its entry into legal export channels. By doing so, the government seeks to create a structured system for managing donkey meat and hides, while also tapping into potential economic opportunities associated with such exports.
Although detailed commercial aspects, such as target markets or projected revenues, were not disclosed during the meeting, the approval marks a significant step toward formalizing the export process. It also reflects an effort to regulate and organize an industry that has been gaining attention in recent years, particularly in connection with international demand.
The decision on donkey meat exports was one of several items discussed during the ECC meeting, which was chaired by the Finance Minister. Overall, the approval signals a move toward better inventory management and the development of regulated export mechanisms within the sector.
