Government employees in Islamabad are set to enjoy an extended break next month as a three-day consecutive holidays period is expected, bringing relief not only to public sector workers but also to students and private office employees.
According to the official holiday schedule issued by the Cabinet Division, May 1 has been declared a public holiday in observance of Labour Day. This national occasion is included in the list of public holidays for 2026, ensuring a nationwide break for workers across various sectors.
Since May 1 falls on a Friday, it will naturally be followed by the regular weekly holidays on Saturday and Sunday. As a result, employees working under a five-day work week system in government offices will benefit from three consecutive days off. This combination creates a long weekend, offering people an opportunity to rest, travel, or spend time with family.
The extended break is expected to be welcomed by students as well, as educational institutions will also remain closed during the official holidays period. Similarly, many private sector employees are likely to benefit depending on their organization’s schedule, further expanding the impact of the long weekend.
The Cabinet Division’s notification confirms that Labour Day remains an important public holiday, reflecting the government’s continued recognition of workers’ contributions. With this arrangement, the alignment of the public holiday and weekly offs results in a continuous three-day break.
Such extended holidays are often seen as a positive opportunity for relaxation and reduced work pressure. Many people are expected to utilize this time for short trips, family gatherings, or personal activities, making the most of the consecutive days off.
Overall, the upcoming schedule ensures a welcome mid-year break, with three straight holidays providing a refreshing pause in the routine of government employees, students, and private workers alike.
