Public Transport Partially Suspended Between Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Public Transport services between Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi remain partially suspended, creating serious difficulties for daily commuters. Passengers traveling between these major cities are facing delays and limited travel options.

According to transport operators, buses using the motorway route to Islamabad are currently not operating. These vehicles have been parked at depots and are not allowed to depart. As a result, Public Transport services on this key route have come to a halt, leaving many travelers stranded.

Meanwhile, buses traveling via the GT Road are still operating, but with restrictions. These buses can reach Rawalpindi but are not allowed to enter the city fully. Passengers are being dropped off at the “26 Number” stop. From there, they must arrange private transport to reach their final destination. This situation has added extra cost and inconvenience for travelers.

Transport officials have confirmed that direct Public Transport services to Islamabad will remain suspended until all routes are fully reopened. They stated that normal operations will resume only after security conditions improve and restrictions are lifted.

The situation has worsened due to the suspension of city-level transport in Islamabad. With local Public Transport also affected, commuters are finding it difficult to move within the capital. This has disrupted routine activities, including office travel and daily errands.

Authorities say the restrictions are linked to heightened security measures in the twin cities. These steps have been taken due to the expected arrival of foreign delegations. Security in sensitive areas has been increased, especially in Islamabad’s Red Zone.

Officials have also announced that government offices in the Red Zone will observe work from home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Employees have been directed to remain available and report to duty if required at short notice.
