Second Round of US-Iran Talks Expected in Islamabad Amid Rising Tensions

A second round of US-Iran Talks is expected to take place on Monday in Islamabad, according to international media reports citing Iranian sources. However, US officials have not yet confirmed the schedule.

The first round of US-Iran Talks was also held in Islamabad earlier. The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance. It included Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff.

The Iranian side was headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Officials said the initial US-Iran Talks resulted in preliminary agreements on key issues. Both sides also showed willingness to continue dialogue. This led to expectations of a second round to build on earlier progress.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, tensions between the two countries remain high. US President Donald Trump has warned that the current ceasefire could collapse within days. He said a long-term agreement must be reached by Wednesday.

Speaking during his return to Washington, Trump made it clear that the US naval blockade will continue. He added that failure in negotiations could lead to renewed conflict. He warned that military action may resume if talks break down.

In response, Iran issued strong warnings of its own. Officials said they may restrict access to the Strait of Hormuz if pressure continues. This route is vital for global oil supply and trade.

Iran’s Defence Ministry stated that the situation remains fragile. Spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik said the waterway is open only under the current ceasefire. He warned that conditions could change quickly.

At the same time, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that commercial shipping continues. He said the route remains open for now. Trump also acknowledged that maritime traffic is ongoing despite tensions.

The upcoming US-Iran Talks in Islamabad are seen as crucial. They could decide whether the ceasefire continues or collapses. A breakdown in dialogue may affect regional stability and global energy markets.
