Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted conditional permission to a ninth-grade student to appear in upcoming examinations. The decision came on Monday amid a dispute over advance school fees for June and July.
According to details, the student’s family approached the SHC against a private school in Karachi. The case was filed after the school demanded payment for June and July in advance. The family argued that this demand was not in line with official guidelines.
The petitioner’s lawyer told the SHC that the school issued fee challans earlier than allowed. He stated that the Education Department’s rules permit schools to collect June and July fees during April and May. Despite complaints to authorities, no action was taken against the school.
After reviewing initial arguments, the SHC ordered that the student be allowed to take the exams without any obstruction. However, the court also directed that the student’s result would remain withheld until the case is decided. This condition aims to balance both sides while legal proceedings continue.
The SHC also issued notices to relevant parties. It asked the Advocate General of Sindh and other officials to submit their responses. The next hearing will review these replies and further details of the case.
This case has highlighted concerns regarding school fee policies in Karachi. Many parents have raised similar issues about advance fee demands. The court’s intervention is being seen as an important step to address such concerns.
In 2024, the Sindh government had already issued clear instructions for private schools. Authorities restricted schools from charging extra fees beyond admission and monthly tuition. The Directorate of Private Institutions also released a notification supporting these rules.
Education experts say such disputes affect students directly. They believe strict enforcement of policies is necessary to protect student rights. The recent order by the SHC reflects the importance of fair practices in the education system.
