4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Parts of Balochistan

A moderate Earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck parts of Balochistan on Saturday morning, causing panic among residents. The tremors were felt in several areas, including Barkhan district.

According to initial reports, the Earthquake had a depth of 25 kilometers. Its epicenter was located about 110 kilometers southeast of Zhob. The shallow depth made the tremors noticeable across nearby regions.

Despite the sudden shock, authorities confirmed that no loss of life or property was reported. Officials stated that the situation remained under control. Emergency teams were placed on alert as a precautionary measure.

Residents in affected areas rushed out of their homes in fear. Many people gathered in open spaces until the situation became stable. Local authorities advised citizens to remain calm and follow safety guidelines during such events.

Earlier this month, a stronger Earthquake measuring 6.1 had also hit parts of the region. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, that quake occurred at a depth of 190 kilometers. Its epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

The earlier tremors were felt across multiple cities, including Islamabad, Peshawar, Chitral, Swat, and Shangla. Authorities had also confirmed no major damage from that incident.

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported that tremors from the earlier quake were felt in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Sargodha. Similar reports came from the disaster management authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Experts say that Pakistan lies in a seismically active region. Minor and moderate earthquakes are not uncommon in areas like Balochistan and northern parts of the country. These regions are close to tectonic plate boundaries.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely. Citizens are advised to stay informed through official channels. Following safety measures can reduce risks during such natural events.
